Alternative provision for children who don't attend school

Alternative provision (AP) is for children of compulsory school age who do not attend mainstream or special schools and who would not otherwise receive suitable education. Walsall Council have a statutory duty to provide this.

Heroes Centre accommodates students if one of the following apply :

Physical or mental health
Awaiting placement in a mainstream school
At risk of disengaging from their mainstream school
Fixed-period exclusion or offsite direction
Permanent exclusion

Our Curriculum

At Heroes Alternate Provision, we cater for students who are in KS2 (Years 3, 4, 5 & 6) to KS3 (Years 7, 8 & 9), offering a comprehensive educational experience for students at every level. With a strong foundation in core subjects such as Maths, English, and Science, we provide rigorous academic instruction tailored to meet individual learning needs. Through a combination of academic rigor and practical application, our curriculum ensures that students are well-equipped for their academic journey and beyond.

Monday: 9am-12pm, 12:30pm-3:30pm

Tuesday: 9am-12pm, 12:30pm-3:30pm

Wednesday: 9am-12pm, 12:30pm-3:30pm

Thursday: 9am-12pm, 12:30pm-3:30pm

Friday: 9am-12pm, 12:30pm-3:30pm

Any student enrolled through alternative provision can study with Heroes for a maximum of 18 hours, either face-to-face, online, or a combination of both.

Key Stage 2

Maths

Key Stage 2 Maths at alternative provision focuses on personalised, engaging lessons to build confidence and understanding in essential mathematical concepts such as arithmetic, fractions, and problem-solving, tailored to meet diverse learning needs and pace.

English

Key Stage 2 English at alternative provision focuses on tailored support for students, enhancing literacy skills through learning plans. Emphasis is on reading comprehension, creative writing, and grammar, ensuring students achieve their full potential in a supportive and adaptive environment.

Science

Key Stage 2 Science at our alternative provision school focuses on engaging, hands-on learning tailored to individual needs. We cover essential topics like plants, animals, materials, and forces through interactive experiments and projects. Our approach nurtures curiosity, critical thinking, and a love for discovery, ensuring every child can achieve their full potential in a supportive, flexible environment.

Physical Education at our alternative provision school focuses on promoting physical health, teamwork, and self-confidence. Students engage in a variety of activities, including team sports, individual challenges, and fitness exercises. Art

At our alternative provision school, Key Stage 2 Art nurtures creativity and self-expression through diverse mediums like painting, sculpture, and digital art. PSHE and RSE

PSHE and RSE are educational programs designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and attributes necessary for students to manage their lives, now and in the future.

It aims to equip students with the understanding needed to make informed decisions about their physical health, emotional well-being, and social responsibilities.

Key Stage 3

Maths

This curriculum is designed to develop students' problem-solving skills, logical reasoning, and numerical fluency. The assessment usually involves written exams with various question types, including multiple-choice, short-answer, and problem-solving questions. Success in Maths GCSE is often required for further education and many career paths.

English

The English GCSE is divided into two main subjects: Language and Literature.

English Language focuses on developing students' abilities in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

English Literature involves the study of novels, plays, and poetry from different periods.

Science

The Science GCSE curriculum covers the fundamental concepts of biology, chemistry, and physics.
